An Introduction to Cast Iron Patio Heaters

A cast iron patio heater is among the easiest and most economical ways to heat a patio. In addition, they are also very good to have around when the weather becomes more humid. They offer thermal comfort to the outdoors in any season and are very practical and useful if one owns a small garden or patio.

There are many sizes and styles to choose from when one decides to buy a patio heater. The designs can be quite small to offer thermal comfort when used indoors, such as in a small apartment. A larger heater, such as one that fits on a patio table, can serve a purpose outdoors even in a large space.

One of the biggest advantages to owning one is that they can last for a long time and still be quite functional. If one needs to replace them later, they may be less expensive than purchasing a new heater. Even though they may cost more up front, they will last longer and will more than pay for themselves.

The best way to store a patio heater is inside a bag or container. It is a good idea to get a small bag or container that is easily removed for easy cleaning. Any spill or debris left on the top of the heater will easily soak into the plastic and become soaked up. This would cause rusting and a problem.

It is not difficult to build your own cast iron patio heater. The following process will provide a very effective and economical way to have the look and feel of the antique kind but will still work in an outdoor setting.

First you will need to build a pottery oven. A pre-heated pot will do just fine. You can use any size pottery oven that you wish. Just make sure that it has enough clearance for the top of the heater to be above the top.

Once you have this done, you will need to trim the top of the top of the stove carefully so it will fit snugly on the top of the oven. After that, place the cast iron patio heater inside the pottery oven and lightly tamp it down with a hammer to secure it.
